Our Values

Plymouth Brethren values are rooted in Scripture and expressed through how we treat one another and contribute to society.

Values at the heart of our faith.

At the heart of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church are values that have guided our community for generations. These are practical principles that help shape everyday decisions.

The Plymouth Brethren faith emphasises integrity, diligence, and care for others. We believe that Christian values should be visible in action. This conviction has shaped our community, which is now known across the UK for the strong work ethic of our members, and genuine neighbourliness.

Our values are not rules imposed on members, but are shared convictions within our fellowship. These values represent a common understanding that life lived according to Biblical principles brings joy to individuals, families, and communities alike.

The principles we live by.

  • Modesty and humility shape the way we live, guiding our relationships, responsibilities and everyday choices. They encourage a spirit of respect, service and consideration for others in both family and working life.
  • Family life provides the foundation for a strong and connected community. Through shared values, mutual support and a sense of belonging, our fellowship helps members navigate life’s opportunities and challenges together.
  • Education, enterprise and hard work have been part of our community for generations. Today, member-owned businesses contribute across a wide range of industries, creating employment, supporting local economies and building trusted relationships.

Grounded in scripture.

The Holy Bible is central to the life of every member, serving as our guide and constant companion. From a young age, children in our Community are introduced to the timeless stories of Scripture that have inspired countless generations.

We hold that the Bible is the divinely inspired, infallible Word of God, given to humanity as a gift. All members are called to uphold the highest standards of moral integrity and to live according to biblical teaching in all they do.

Each day, we come together to pray and read from the Scriptures. On Sundays, we gather in our Gospel Halls across the UK to celebrate the Lord’s Supper and share the Gospel.

Our values.

Modesty & Humility

Modesty and humility are cornerstones of our faith, guiding how we present ourselves, work together and engage with the world around us. Rooted in Scripture, these values shape everything from our preference for simplicity in appearance to our collaborative approach to decision-making in business and family life.

Family & Community

Strong families and close community bonds are at the heart of Plymouth Brethren life. We believe that nurturing family relationships creates resilient communities, with values passed between generations forming the foundation of how we live. Beyond the immediate family, our wider fellowship provides a supportive network where members care for one another through life’s challenges and opportunities.

Business & Entrepreneurship

Whilst the Church itself does not own or operate businesses, our members have a proud tradition of entrepreneurship stretching back to the Industrial Revolution. Today, member-owned businesses operate across virtually every sector of the British economy, creating thousands of jobs, contributing significant tax revenues, and building lasting relationships with local suppliers and communities.
