Strong families and close community bonds are at the heart of Plymouth Brethren life.
Family life brings great joy to Plymouth Brethren Christian Church members and plays a pivotal role in our communities.
This includes the extended family, such as grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins, and the broader circle of the church community. Together, these relationships form the foundation of Brethren life.
Brethren families are genuinely close-knit. Free time is typically spent with family: cooking together, making music, enjoying outdoor activities, and hosting others in the home.
Young adults generally continue living at home until they marry, which helps maintain the strong family ties that are a hallmark of the Plymouth Brethren community.
Children are welcomed into all aspects of church life, and the elderly are valued and cared for by their families.
This close family connection naturally extends outward into the broader neighborhood where Plymouth Brethren Christian Church members live on regular streets in ordinary American towns and cities and take their role as neighbors seriously.
Helping and checking in with others, and contributing to local life, are simply part of how Plymouth Brethren values are put into practice.
Far from being the “Exclusive Brethren”, as it is incorrectly referred to in other parts of the world, the Plymouth Brethren community extends its support beyond helping its neighbors and the local community.
Through its charitable arm, the Rapid Relief Team, the church deploys thousands of volunteers to support disaster relief, homeless outreach, and youth programs across the US and worldwide.

Whilst the Church itself does not own or operate businesses, our members have a proud tradition of entrepreneurship stretching back to the Industrial Revolution. Today, member-owned businesses operate across virtually every sector of the British economy, creating thousands of jobs, contributing significant tax revenues, and building lasting relationships with local suppliers and communities.
