Marriage

Marriage within the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church (PBCC).

Marriage as a sacred covenant.

Marriage, which holds a sacred place in Plymouth Brethren faith, brings happiness, strength and companionship to its members.

Like millions of Christians across the United States and around the world, members of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church believe that marriage is a union between one man and one woman.

Brethren weddings are modest by design, which is consistent with how the community approaches most aspects of life.

Ceremonies are typically held on a Tuesday; this is a practice drawn from the biblical reference to a wedding on the third day (John 2).

The service takes place at the home of the bride, and while the setting is simple, it is heartfelt.

The bride wears a traditional long white wedding dress; the groom typically wears a white shirt and dark trousers, often with a suit jacket. Both bride and groom exchange vows. Women wear engagement and wedding rings, while men generally do not wear jewelry.

Brethren members are respectful of others who hold different views on marriage and family. Plymouth Brethren values center on living according to Scripture while caring for and living harmoniously alongside all people.
